OTHER RESOURCES FOR THOSE IN NEED

The following organizations have extensive information and referral resources for those in need of finding shelter, housing and/or services

BAHA

Shelter Hotline (1-800-7SHELTER)

The Bay Area Homeless Alliance (BAHA) is a nine county group representing public and nonprofit social service agencies, homeless service providers and educators. BAHA members have been collaborating over a year to develop a regional centralized information system to improve access to shelter, housing, support services, benefits and employment for homeless individuals and families or those who are at-risk of homelessness.

The BAHA project will create a regional infrastructure for Bay Area homeless service providers to communicate with and among each other (Intranet) as well as with the general public (Internet). It will consist of three major activities referred to collectively as the centralized information system. The Community VoiceMail system provides voice mail capability directly to homeless people, enabling them to attain housing and job information to increase their independence, self-esteem, and sense of self-determination. It also includes a Shelter Hotline (1-800-7SHELTER) giving callers daily information about shelter bed availability anywhere in the region. The other activities are the Provider Library and the Privacy and Civil Rights Regional Standards Protocol.
